A more that my mom has taught me when I was little was a small gesture of respect that they do in the Philippines, what you would do is grab the right hand of an elder and bring it to your forehead and that was like a blessing that younger people did to their elders. It is highly frowned upon if you do not do this and sometimes you might even get a slap from the elders or parents. It does not matter if you do this just most people do and prefer it this way.
